Scenes pertaining to U.S. Highway 202
U.S. 202 (Western Avenue) meets Interstate 95 (Maine Turnpike) in west Augusta via a trumpet to trumpet interchange configuration. Pictured here is the ramp split between Interstate 95 north to Waterville, Newport, Bangor, Houlton, and Interstate 95 south to Lewiston, Portland, and Kittery. The Maine Turnpike used to end here, but legislation signed in 2005 extended it informally northward to Exit 112 to allow the heaviest of trucks to use the road to Maine 3. Photo taken 06/28/05.
Interstate 95 and Maine Turnpike shields posted at the ramp split from U.S. 202. Interstate 95 south travels six miles to the split with Interstate 295. This section is tolled. Northbound travelers continue two miles to junction Maine 8-11-27. While Interstate 95 north of U.S. 202 is now apart of the Turnpike, it remains a free facility. Photo taken 06/28/05.
