U.S. Highway 201 north
U.S. 201 begins at the Maine 24 (Maine Street) junction with U.S. 1 in downtown Brunswick. A diamond interchange joins the two highways with the U.S. 1 freeway below. U.S. 1 travels a freeway east from Mill Street in Brunswick along the Androscoggin River to Cooks Corner and Naval Air Station Brunswick. The freeway ends at downtown Bath near the Kennebec River. Drivers bound for Interstate 295 should use U.S. 1 southbound from Maine 24 (Maine Street) northbound. U.S. 1 follows Mills and Pleasant Street west from Brunswick to a freeway connector linking the federal highway with Interstate 295 Exit 28. Traveling across the Androscoggin River on U.S. 201 & Maine 24 (Maine Street / Main Street) northbound. The river flows east from Auburn and Lewiston into Merrymeeting Bay and the Kennebec River. Now in Topsham, U.S. 201 & Maine 24 (Main Street) leave the Androscoggin River and near their split at Elm Street. Maine 24 veers eastward toward Bowdoinham; U.S. 201 maintains a northward trajectory to the commercial district of Topsham, meeting Maine 196 (New Lewiston Road) near its interchange with Interstate 295 (Exit 31) in the process. U.S. 201 (Main Street) northbound after its split from Maine 139 (Western Avenue) in the town of Fairfield. U.S. 201 meets Interstate 95 at a partial-cloverleaf interchange (Exit 133) in three quarters of a mile. Both highways leave one another for good beyond the interchange. Southbound along Main Street in Fairfield at the U.S. 201 junction with Maine 139 (Western Avenue). Maine 139 enters town from Fairfield Center and the Interstate 95 Exit 132 interchange to the west.
