U.S. Highway 130

U.S. 130 North
A four lane lift bridge carries U.S. 130 northbound into the village of Bridgeport in Gloucester County. Main Street splits from the federal route just east of the span to comprise the original U.S. 130 through town. Photos taken 09/19/04.
U.S. 130 northbound expands to three lanes in anticipation of the upcoming junction with U.S. 322 and the Commodore John Barry Bridge. A full cloverleaf interchange facilitates the movements between the two federal highways and the adjacent Delaware River toll crossing. Pictured here is the advance guide sign for the U.S. 322 eastbound ramp to Swedesboro, Mullica Hill, and Glassboro. Photo taken 09/19/04.
U.S. 130 upgrades to a freeway through Bridgeport and the U.S. 322 interchange. The limited access highway provides a high speed connection between the Commodore Barry Bridge, Chester, Pennsylvania, and Interstate 95 to Interstate 295 and the South Jersey communities of Paulsboro, Gibbstown, and National Park among others. U.S. 322 departs a short overlap with Interstate 95 via the bridge to the U.S. 130 cloverleaf interchange. Photo taken 10/13/01.
A revisit to the interchange three years later reveals replaced overheads for U.S. 130 and U.S. 322 at the eastbound off-ramp. Traffic interests to Interstate 295 northbound should remain on U.S. 130 north for its merge with the freeway in two miles. Drivers bound for Interstate 295 south must use the on-ramp from U.S. 322 east at Exit 10 however. Photo taken 09/19/04.
What was the end sign posted for U.S. 130's northern terminus at U.S. 1 in North Brunswick. The former jughandled intersection with U.S. 1 & New Jersey 171 was replaced with an interchange in the early 2000s. Photo taken 03/15/00.

How the U.S. 130 northern terminus looked before interchange construction began in 2001. A high speed directional cloverleaf interchange now composes the junction between the two federal highways and adjacent New Jersey 171. See a map of the completed project at NJFreeways.com. Photo taken 03/15/00.
Entering North Brunswick on U.S. 130 (Georges Road) northbound near the signalized intersection with Raider Road. Posted here is the one-mile guide sign for the U.S. 130 northern terminus at junction U.S. 1 and New Jersey 171 (Georges Road). Photo taken 10/03/04.
A diagrammatical overhead advises motorists of the upcoming partition of traffic between U.S. 1 northbound to Newark and U.S. 1 south & New Jersey 171 north. New Jersey 171 continues Georges Road northward into New Brunswick from U.S. 130. U.S. 1 comprises a six-lane expressway between New Brunswick and Trenton to the southwest. Photo taken 10/03/04.
Traffic to the northbound beginning of New Jersey 171 (Georges Road) and the loop ramp onto U.S. 1 southbound departs U.S. 130 north at a diamond interchange with the U.S. 1 frontage road. Drivers ascend to the signalized intersection with the service road before crossing over U.S. 1. New Jersey 171 spurs into New Brunswick north of the U.S. 130 northern terminus. Photo taken 10/03/04.
U.S. 130 northbound defaults onto the northbound lanes of U.S. 1 otherwise. The federal highway descends below the U.S. 1 Frontage Road over crossing and curves to merge onto U.S. 1. The high speed ramp carries traffic east of New Brunswick to Edison, Rahway, Elizabeth, and Newark. Photo taken 10/03/04.
New Jersey 171 (Georges Road) northbound passes over the U.S. 130 northbound merge onto U.S. 1 north. The southbound beginning from U.S. 1 south enters the scene to the left. Ahead is the U.S. 1 full-cloverleaf interchange with Milltown Road and North Main Street at Milltown. Photo taken 10/03/04.
U.S. 130 South
U.S. 130 (Crescent Boulevard) southbound at Interstate 76 in Gloucester City. Pictured here are original button copy overheads for the left-hand on-ramp to Interstate 76 east, Interstate 295, New Jersey 42 south, and the Atlantic City Expressway. Passing overhead are the overpasses for the Interstate 76 mainline and westbound on-ramp from U.S. 130 northbound. Photo taken 06/19/00.
Detail of the Interstate 76 eastbound panel on U.S. 130 (Crescent Boulevard) southbound. Interstate 76 ends one mile to the south at the brief overlap with Interstate 295. From there New Jersey 42 begins and continues the North South Freeway to New Jersey 55 and the Black Horse Pike where the Atlantic City Expressway begins. Access to Interstate 76 west and the Walt Whitman Bridge is provided by a ramp onto Interstate 76 Connector one mile to the north. Photo taken 06/19/00.
U.S. 130 southbound departs its ten mile overlap with Interstate 295 near Gibbstown at Exit 13. From there the federal highway follows a four-lane freeway two miles west to Bridgeport and junction U.S. 322. A folded-diamond interchange joins U.S. 130 with Cedar Swamp Road just southwest of Gibbstown and east of Bridgeport. Photo taken 09/19/04.
Cedar Swamp Road parallels a railroad corridor that parallels New Jersey 44 (Crown Point Road). U.S. 130 ascends across both roadways and the railroad line midway between the Crown Point Road exit and a folded-diamond interchange with New Jersey 44. New Jersey 44 constitutes the original alignment of U.S. 130 between Thorofare and Gibbstown along Crown Point Road. Photo taken 09/19/04.
Southbound at the ramp departure for the eastbound beginning of New Jersey 44 (Crown Point Road). New Jersey 44 enters Gibbstown just northeast of the freeway. Crown Point Road meanwhile parallels U.S. 130 to the south between the interchange and Bridgeport (Main Street). Photo taken 09/19/04.
U.S. 130 southbound reassurance marker posted after the New Jersey 44 on-ramp. The four lane freeway continues one mile west to Bridgeport and junction U.S. 322. Photo taken 09/19/04.
Turn-offs exist between U.S. 130 and New Barker Avenue ahead of the Springers Lane overcrossing at Bridgeport. The full-cloverleaf interchange with U.S. 322 and the Commodore John Barry Bridge exists beyond the overpass. Photo taken 09/19/04.
Traffic to the Commodore John Barry Bridge leaves U.S. 130 southbound for U.S. 322 west. The tolled cantilever span crosses the Delaware River between Bridgeport and Chester, Pennsylvania. U.S. 322 merges with Interstate 95 3.5 miles to the northwest in Chester. Photo taken 09/19/04.
Button copy overheads for the U.S. 130 southbound loop ramp to U.S. 322 east at Bridgeport. U.S. 322 leaves Bridgeport for a two mile drive to junction Interstate 295 at Logan Township. The federal route curves easterly from there six miles to Exit 2 of the New Jersey Turnpike and 20 miles to Glassboro. Photo taken 10/13/01.
Sign replacements at the loop ramp to U.S. 322 east from U.S. 130 south. A parallel New Jersey 324 (Old Ferry Road) composes the original U.S. 322 between Island Drive nearby and the old Chester-Bridgeport Ferry launch site. The cantilever span for U.S. 322 opened to traffic in 1974 to replace the ferry service. Photo taken 09/19/04.
U.S. 130 southbound intersects Island Road ahead of a four-lane lift bridge at the south edge of Bridgeport. The federal route maintains four lanes through wetlands areas through to the Salem County line at Oldmans Creek. U.S. 130 continues from there to Penns Grove and Deepwater. Photo taken 09/19/04.
