U.S. Highway 1 - Maine

U.S. 1 straddles the coastal reaches of Maine northward from Kittery to Freeport and again from Rockland, Belfast and within the vicinity of Ellsworth and Frenchman Bay. At Calais, the highway leaves the coastal reaches on a northerly trek to Houlton, Presque Isle, Caribou, and ultimately Fort Kent. Several Alternate routes for U.S. 1 exist within the state of Maine. Most significant of those are loops north into Bangor from Stockton Springs and Ellsworth and east through Fort Fairfield and Limestone in Aroostook County.
