| End Pennsylvania 283 shield at the intersection with Eisenhower Boulevard to the northeast of Pennsylvania 230. This intersection is the abrupt end of the Lancaster to Harrisburg freeway. Pennsylvania 230 was U.S. 230 at one time, and was decommissioned shortly after the completion of the Pennsylvania 283 freeway (which paralleled the U.S. 230 routing and was apart of it around Lancaster initially). This end shield is posted just to the west of the cloverleaf with Interstate 283. It is here that the grassy median strip changes into a jersey barrier median, because Pennsylvania 283 shifts onto the alignment of former Pennsylvania 230. Also of note are the powerlines in the background. These links supply Harrisburg with power and eminate from the infamous Three-Mile Island nuclear power facility. The plant sits on an actual three-mile long island in the Susquehanna River not far to the south of Harrisburg metro. Photo taken 09/18/04. |
