The connector joins Brunswick with Topsham across the Androscoggin River. Maine 196 east Maine 196 (Coastal Connector) eastbound enters the intersection with the Maine 24 connector in eastern Topsham. Maine 196 follows a bypass route between U.S. 201 (Main Street) and the Androscoggin River outside of central Topsham. Maine 24 passes underneath the bypass at the Androscoggin River. Photo taken 06/28/05. Maine 24 travels northeast from downtown Topsham via Elm Street. The state highway joins Brunswick and Topsham with Bowdoinham and Richmond northward along the Kennebec River. Maine 196 provides a direct connection between Interstate 295 and U.S. 1 travelers bound for the south Maine coast. Maine 196 consists of a four-lane highway between U.S. 1 and the partial-cloverleaf interchange with Interstate 295 (Exit 31).
