Exit 9 represents the last departure point for southbound motorists before Interstate 295 defaults onto the Throgs Neck Bridge across the East River. The span includes a $4.50 toll for all passenger vehicles as it joins the Bronx with Beechhurst in Queens. Interstate 295 enters the Throgs Neck Bridge toll plaza at Locust Point and then proceeds southward over Throgs Neck and the East River. The Throgs Neck suspension Bridge spans 2,910 feet from anchorage to anchorage at a height of 142 feet above the shipping channel below.1 Photo taken 08/29/05.

Travelers destined for Brooklyn via Interstate 495 (Long Island Expressway) or the Grand Central Parkway west should remain on Interstate 295 southbound beyond Exit 8. The interchange with Cross Island Parkway provides connections to eastbound only ahead of the Bayside community of east Queens. Due to low bridge clearances, commercial trucks and buses may not use the parkway and instead those vehicles must use the interchanges with Interstate 295. Photo taken 08/29/05.
