Milepost zero of Interstate 278 eastbound as the freeway departs the northbound lanes of U.S. 1 & 9 at the city of Linden. Interstate 278 links U.S. 1 & 9 with Interstate 95 (New Jersey Turnpike) and the Goethals Bridge. A wide grassy median remains from the abandoned plans to join Interstate 278 with its parent at Newark to the northwest. Photo taken 10/03/04. |

Access to Interstate 278 eastbound is provided only to U.S. 1 & 9 northbound travelers. The four-lane freeway leaves the partial "Y" interchange with the federal highway tandem for its interchange with Brunswick Avenue and New Jersey 439 (Exit 1A). Note the wide median intended for the never built carriageways of Interstate 278 northwest to Interstate 78. Photo taken 10/03/04. |

A non-descript sign lies within the median of Interstate 278 for the Interstate 95 & New Jersey Turnpike interchange ahead (Exit 1B). The New Jersey Turnpike and the Goethals Bridges are tolled highways. Therefore traffic not wishing to pay fees should exit onto Brunswick Avenue ahead. Photo taken 10/03/04. |
