Six lanes of Connecticut Turnpike span the Connecticut River between Old Saybrook and Old Lyme. Designated the Raymond E. Baldwin Bridge, the span replaced a 1911 draw bridge that U.S. 1 used until 1948. The original bridge and freeway carried just U.S. 1 until the Interstate 95 designation of 1958.
