I-95 Northbound - Warwick to downtown Providence

Interstate 95 north
A three-quarter cloverleaf interchange joins Interstate 95 with Rhode Island 113 (East Avenue) at Exit 12. Interstate 295 and Rhode Island 113 interchange nearby to provide the missing movements of Exit 12. Rhode Island 113 consists of an east-west route between Rhode Island 2 (Bald Hill Road) at East Natick to Rhode Island 5 (Greenwich Avenue) and junction U.S. 1 (Post Road) at Greenwood. The one-mile overhead for U.S. 1 (Exit 13) resides within the Rhode Island 113 interchange at Exit 12. U.S. 1 straddles the coastal areas from Westerly and the Connecticut state line to Greenwich Bay and Warwick before finally meeting Interstate 95. Photo taken 06/26/05.

Next in line is the directional-cloverleaf interchange with the Rhode Island 37 freeway at Exits 14A/B. Rhode Island 37, once considered for possible inclusion into defunct Interstate 84 and Interstate 895 alignments, joins Interstate 95 with Interstate 295 to the west and U.S. 1 (Post Road) to the east. Rhode Island 10 constitutes the inner belt freeway of Providence between Park Avenue near U.S. 1 (Elmwood Avenue) and Interstate 95 & U.S. 6 near downtown. One of the oldest freeways in the state, Rhode Island 10 was once touted as a possible Interstate 184 had Interstate 84 been completed between Providence and Hartford.1 The roadway otherwise serves the Cranston town center and Auburn nearby. One mile south of the present Interstate 195 & U.S. 6 east interchange with Interstate 95 (Exit 20). At present Interstate 195 & U.S. 6 follow a curved path east from Interstate 95 across the Seekonk River to India Point Park. A major project is underway to build a new alignment and signature bridge span across the Providence River for Interstate 195 & U.S. 6 to the south of the present alignment. Upon completion, a new straighter freeway will travel east from a new high-speed interchange near the Eddy Street over crossing south of downtown to the Washington Bridge over the Seekonk River. Interstate 195 & U.S. 6 parallel one another through the Fall River and New Bedford areas to Wareham in southeastern Massachusetts. The directional interchange between the two freeways lie along the south edge of the Providence central business district. A connector ramp provides access to the eastbound freeway from Friendship Street and U.S. 1 (Broad Street) nearby.
