Interstate 95 crosses the Connecticut state by way of the New England Thruway at Port Chester, New York. The freeway enters the community of Byram at the extreme southwestern corner of the state west of Greenwich. Exit 6 carries motorists onto Baxter Avenue between Harvard and West Avenues in Stamford. Baxter Avenue continues east to Fairfield Avenue before ending. Wilson Street and Fairfield Avenue pass over Interstate 95 ahead of the Exit 7 off-ramp to Greenwich Avenue and State Street east. State Street forms a frontage road system of the Connecticut Turnpike between Greenwich Avenue and Lafayette Avenue. Interstate 95 passes over the northbound beginning of Connecticut 137 (Washington Boulevard) ahead of the Exit 8 half-diamond interchange with Atlantic Street. Atlantic Street travels between Manhattan Street, U.S. 1 (Tresser Boulevard), Stamford Town Center, and Broad Street. The final Stamford interchange of the Connecticut Turnpike serves U.S. 1 (Main Street) and the southern terminus of Connecticut 106 (Courtland Avenue). U.S. 1 (Tresser Boulevard) merges with Broad Street to form Main Street again north of the Interstate 95 crossing of Elm Street.
