Traffic to Interstate 79 southbound (Exit 21) departs Interstate 70 westbound at the Lakeview Drive over crossing. A trumpet interchange joins the two freeways three miles east of the Washington city center and Interstate 79 interchanges with U.S. 40 (National Pike) one mile to the south before departing Washington. Over a year after this photo was taken the Lakeview Drive overpass collapsed. The incident occurred in December 2005 and fortunately no one was injured or killed. The freeway was closed however so PennDOT crews fix the damage and inspect all of the aging spans over Interstate 70.
