Hutchinson River Parkway - Southbound

Highway photos covering the Hutchinson River Parkway southbound from Interstate 287 & 684 at White Plains to Interstates 95, 295, 678 in the Bronx, New York.

Hutchinson River Parkway South
A full cloverleaf interchange joins the Hutchinson River Parkway with the Bronx Pelham Parkway at Exits 3W/E. Pictured here is the loop ramp onto the Bronx Pelham Parkway eastbound ahead of its junction with Interstate 95 (New England Thruway). The four-lane divided highway transitions into Shore Road through Pelham Bay Park east of the New England Thruway. Photo taken 08/29/05.
The Hutchinson River Parkway continues southbound a short distance to the confluence of Westchester and Tremont Avenues. Exit 2 serves the two surface arteries via Waters Place and Fink Avenue. Photo taken 08/29/05.
All vehicles with a height of over nine feet must depart the Hutchinson River Parkway southbound via Exit 2 because of the Westchester Avenue over crossing. Westchester Avenue travels southwest from Bruckner Boulevard and Pelham Bay Park to the Parkchester and Soundview neighborhoods in the east Bronx. Photo taken 08/29/05.
Exit 2 departs the Hutchinson River Parkway southbound to the intersection of Waters Place and Fink Avenue. Waters Place meets Westchester Avenue one block to the south. Tremont Avenue meanders east-west through the Van Nest, Parkchester, and Throgs Neck communities of the east Bronx. Tremont and Westchester Avenues cross paths just west of the six-lane parkway in the Westchester community. Photo taken 08/29/05.
Crossing over head in this scene is Westchester Avenue and the elevated #6 line of the New York Subway (MTA) subway and transit system. Note the 9' clearance over the right-hand lane. Photo taken 08/29/05.
Southbound travelers pass underneath Tremont Avenue and a cut and cover tunnel between Exits 2 and the Bruckner Interchange. Photo taken 08/29/05.
The Hutchinson River Parkway emerges from the cut and cover tunnel to parallel the Westchester Creek en route to the Bruckner Interchange. The right-hand lane becomes exit only for the Bruckner Boulevard and its connections to Interstate 95 (Cross-Bronx Expressway) and Interstate 278 (Bruckner Expressway). Photo taken 08/29/05.
The Hutchinson River Parkway is one of a handful of parkways within the New York City area to provide services in the form of on-site gas stations. A service area resides along the southbound approach to the Bruckner Interchange. The plaza was built in the early 1940s.1 Photo taken 08/29/05.
Drawing near the 2002-reconstructed Bruckner Interchange on the Hutchinson River Parkway southbound. The interchange joins the Cross-Bronx Expressway (Interstate 95 and 295), the Bruckner Expressway (Interstate 278 and 95), and the Hutchinson River Parkway and Interstate 678 (Bronx Whitestone Bridge). Photo taken 08/29/05.
A small guide sign directs drivers bound for the Triboro Bridge onto Interstate 278 (Bruckner Expressway) westbound via Exit 1. The Triboro Bridge links the boroughs of Bronx, Manhattan, and Queens five miles to the southwest of the Bruckner Interchange. Photo taken 08/29/05.
The Exit 1 off-ramp to Bruckner Boulevard provides connections to Interstate 95 (Cross-Bronx Expressway) south to the George Washington Bridge, Interstate 278 (Bruckner Expressway) southbound to the Triboro Bridge, return access to either Interstate 678 south or the Hutchinson River Parkway north, and access onto Interstate 95 (Bruckner Expressway) north to New Rochelle. Bruckner Boulevard comprises a frontage street network for Interstate 278 and 95 through the Bronx. The Cross-Bronx Expressway frontage street network stems west from the Bruckner Interchange to provide access onto Interstate 95 southbound. Photo taken 08/29/05.
Bruckner Boulevard westbound travels over the Hutchinson River Parkway via a stone arch bridge. Interstate 95 and the ramps to Interstate 295 and 278 pass overhead as part of the Bruckner Interchange complex. The Hutchinson River Parkway continues south along Interstate 678 to the Bronx Whitestone Bridge as a six to eight-lane freeway. See the Bruckner Boulevard section of New York @ NorthEastRoads.com - Interstate 95 for additional photos. Photo taken 08/29/05.
